Preventing Falls

Falling can cause injury and pain at any age. Here are a few tips to prevent falling.

     Look at what you wear.Shoes with slick bottoms and high heels are more dangerous. High heels make you prone to spraining ankles.Flip flops slip off.Wear low heeled,  non-slip shoes.

Clean up!- Keep objects out of high traffic areas in your home. Make sure the area to the exits and to the bathroom are clear so you will trip over them when the lights are  off.

Turn the lights on- Make sure all areas are well lit before you walk in them to avoid tripping.

Fix your shower- Have bars installed inside and outside the shower and bath.Also, make your shower and bath floor non-slick.

Watch for slippery surfaces- Put signs up where near and pay attention to signs that are up.Clean up water at your house as soon as you realize it is there.

Exercise to build strong muscles and bones- Find a balance that is right for you of strength training, aerobics, and stretching.Use a personal trainer or take classes to learn how to exercise correctly.

Stay safe and avoid falls.
