Never been to the chiropractor before? A little anxious about what your first appointment will look like? No need to worry, chiropractic care is safe and effective. After the initial discussion and general overview of your intake paperwork, the doctor will conduct a clinical exam, which includes the following:

  • Patient History and Symptoms:
    • This will be a review of your initial paperwork which covers areas such as medical history, current complaint, and goals of treatment.
    • Patients are usually asked to provide information on family medical history, pre-existing medical conditions or prior injuries, and previous and current health providers and treatments.
  • The Chiropractic Exam:
    • This is a thorough exam that generally includes tests such as:
      • Reflexes
      • Postural exam
      • Range of motion exam
      • Neurological exams
      • Muscle tone and strength
    • Further chiropractic exams may be necessary to test the affected area
  • Diagnostic Studies:
    • The doctor will evaluate the information gathered from both the history and exam to determine if any additional studies are warranted.
    • Diagnostic studies are not always necessary, and should only be taken if the doctor believes that the study would provide information that would be necessary to guide the patient’s treatment
    • If diagnostic studies such as x-ray, MRI, CT scans, or diagnostic ultrasounds are warranted, your doctor will write you a prescription for the necessary study

After the exam is complete, if no additional information is needed, our Doctors will discuss a treatment plan with you and in most cases proceed with your first treatment which may include any of the following:

  • Chiropractic Adjustments to the involved area
  • Muscle Work
  • Electrical Stimulation
  • Rolling Table
  • Assisted Stretching
  • Rehabilitation Exercises

Note: Many people are nervous about chiropractors adjusting a specific body part. If you come in with low back pain, we will examine and treat for the low back pain. You will always know what we are doing and why.
